March Visiting Teaching Gift

So here they are!  I think they turned out darling... as usual!
The message from the Ensign this month talks about using
personal scripture study to strengthen your faith in God...

We have made a "lucky" little book for you to share.
This is a picture of the front of the book...

The tag is supposed to remind us that we are indeed "LUCKY" to have the scriptures... as we study them...we are strengthened...we are urged to become scholars...and yes, all sisters can do it!

A pic of the inside cover after opening the book...

And the inside with the entire message from the Ensign

And the back page... with the (of course) treat!
A Symphony bar and the message to
"Join a Worldwide Symphony of Sisters Studying Scriptures"

So what do you think?
(It makes me want to grab 3 and do my Visiting Teaching!)
I wish you could see them in person...

Visit our store in Lehi or our website to purchase these little goodies!

Kid Valentine Ideas - Make it Special!

I know, I know, Valentine's Day is officially for sweethearts.  But what about the kids?  They do get the classroom parties and the exchange of Valentine's... but let's make sure they know they are loved at home this year!  Here are some ideas:

Plan a quick & easy Valentine dinner for tonight.  On the menu:  heart shaped pizza, candlelight spaghetti dinner, and heart shaped brownies.  Easy.  No stress.  Hardly any planning.

Come and grab a Valentine Bingo set from us and have a family game night.

For breakfast, have the table set when the kids wake up.  At each setting, have just a small gift for them.  How exciting!  They will love it.  On the menu:  grab your bread and cut out a heart from the middle of each slice (cookie cutter, or use a knife).  Grease your pan and set down your bread.  Crack an egg in the middle of each heart.  Cook til desired and then turn.  The hearts that you cut out can be used to make french toast!  I did this the other morning, and my 4 year old thought it was SO COOL to have a heart shaped french toast.

Grab some Love Bug Droppings (red hots or any red candies) to leave on each child's pillow... they will find it when they crawl into bed tonight.

For the girlies, this little daisy purse is to die for.  Fill it up with some treats, jewelry, lotions, fingernail polish... you get the idea.  They are 15% off today - along with anything you stuff in them!

Hope I got your mind going with some ideas.  Most of you already have it all planned out.  But for those last minute finishing touches... we are here!
Happy Valentine's Day!

We've showed you our mini topiaries before... they are awesome and easy to use for so many occasions.

Great to hang above a serving table at any party.
Great to have on the ground at a party - kids love to play with them!
Great as a balloon weight... tie your balloon bouquet to one that is weighted down.
Great as a centerpiece...like this one!
(the picture really doesn't do it justice... it's so much cuter in real life!)
We've stuck candy in between each balloon so when the kiddos wake up on Valentine's morning, they will have this darling heart shaped ball just patiently waiting for them to devour!
Wouldn't it be cute on your table Sunday morning?

Sugar Cookie Recipe

I spent 3 HOURS making sugar cookies last night!
But...it was worth it - the dough tasting, the frosting sampling,
and the fun with my 4 year old!
So here is the recipe for YOU!

OLD FASHIONED SOFT SUGAR COOKIES
3 1/2 C. sifted flour         1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda                      1 square butter
1/2 tsp. salt                     1/2 cup sour cream
1 cup sugar                     1 egg

Sift together flour, soda & salt.  In another bowl, combine remaining ingredients and beat 2 minutes.  Add flour mixture and stir well.  Roll out 1/4" to 1/2" thick (the thicker the better, I think!).  Cut into cookies and place on greased sheet.  Bake at 400 for 8-10 minutes.  (DO NOT wait for cookies to brown before taking out.  This will make them too dry/hard.  My oven runs a little hot, so I baked them at 380 for only 7 minutes and they are perfect.  Just a side note!)

CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1 tsp. vanilla
1 (3 oz) cream cheese
2 C. powdered sugar
1/4 C. butter

(add a little milk if you want to thin the frosting out)

Enjoy!

Quick Valentine Game Idea

If you are a procrastinator (like me), then you might just need a quick activity for a Valentine school class party.  This requires hardly any preparation, and it will work for most age groups.
Keep in mind - it really is simple - but can be fun!

The basic idea:
Get a colored piece of paper and cut out a big heart.
Either rip or cut the heart into pieces, creating a puzzle.
Hide the pieces around the classroom (or at home).
Have kids gather the pieces of the heart and put the puzzle together!

Easy, huh?

For a classroom, divide the class into ___ groups (whatever works for you!)
Each group will have a different colored heart to find.
The team that gathers the pieces and puts their puzzle together fastest WINS!

To spice it up a bit - turn on some fun lovey dovey music while the kids are searching for their pieces... or even add another element:  Once the puzzle is put together, the group has to write a message to their teacher on it.  Be creative - there are lots of variations you can make up to add some fun.

Hope that helps!

Happy (early) Valentine's!

p.s. Don't forget those teacher gifts... we have lots to choose from!  My favorite?
A pot of real red and pink daisies adorned with ribbon, and a darling little phrase.  A must see!

I love you Because... with Balloons

One year for Valentine's Day, I brought about 5 dozen assorted balloons home and filled up my bedroom.  The color scheme was red & black.  On little pieces of paper, I wrote on each one a reason why I loved my husband, and tied it to the string on the bottom of the balloon.

When he came home, he saw all the balloons (which is fun even without the love notes) but then he started noticing the little handwritten tags... and I think it made his day!  Which is what I was going for.

So easy.  A great memory.  And if you scrapbook - think of how cute all those little love notes would be all preserved for future generations to read!

A little different twist on this idea:
-Get 100 little pieces of paper and write a note on each one.  The first one can explain that there are AT LEAST 100 things you love about your sweetheart.
-Make a little "path" using your notes: start at the front door and wind them on the floor into the bathroom, out to the hall, into the kitchen, then to the bedroom, etc.
-Leave an occasional treat along the path... or tie each tag to a treat.
-This could be cute for kids, too!

I Love you Because

A few years ago, we created a bag line called,
"I love you because..."
Each bag has a tag that starts with "I love you because..." and then each has a different reason that went along with what treat was inside the bag. The idea being that you would give a little "I love you" bag to your honey the 5 or 6 days leading up to Valentine's Day...
For example:  "I love you because...you're my BIG HUNK!"  or
"I love you because... of all the EXTRA little things you do for me"
So those are easy, right?  You can do that!
Come up with 3 or 4 reasons why you love your man (or kids) and create your little gifts.
These are great to leave on the seat of a car, on the bathroom counter, on a pillow, etc.
If you need a little help, let us know!  We can do special orders with 24 hours notice.

Heart Shaped Rice Crispy Pops

Fun for school treats, a party favor, or just a little project for the little ones!
Just make your rice crispy squares as usual, cut out the heart, and insert the stick!  Then place in the freezer for 5-10 minutes to set up; melt your chocolate and take each cooled rice crispy heart and dip in chocolate.  Then add your sprinkles, and place upright in a jar to dry (then the chocolate won't get messed up on either side).  Use your cellophane sacks to wrap them up and tie on your ribbon!

Valentine Fruit Kabobs

Oh my goodness!  LOVE this idea!  How darn cute!

Grab your small heart cookie cutter and your popsicle sticks (or wooden skewers) and you are set!  Oh - and don't forget the dip.  A little bit of cool whip and a little bit of strawberry yogurt is all you'll need to have a darling little afternoon snack, breakfast platter, or even serve at a girls night out this month!

Countdown to Valentine's Day

So there are only 12 days left until the BIG DAY of love!  We are SO EXCITED!  If you live close, you won't want to miss all the cute ideas and gifts we have available right now... but if you are not close by -
we will be posting an idea a day until the 14th!

This one you will have to do FAST.  If you have small kids, they will be so excited to help you make a quick Valentine Countdown... it will help the next 12 days go by a little faster for those inquiring minds.

Today I did a VERY simple old-school red and pink chain made out of just plain old cardstock.  My 4 year old cut the strips and then stapled them together.  We wrote on each one (1-12) and then hung it in his room. I know it's not the cutest thing in the world, but he ABSOLUTELY loved it!

Here is a picture of another simple idea, but REALLY cute!
A muffin tin turned on it's side...

Cover each muffin hole with a round die cut, embellished as much as you want...add a little treat inside, and you're done!  Pretty simple and oh-so-cute!
(I could not find the creator of this idea to give them credit... sorry!)

Check back tomorrow for another fun idea...
