Snow shooters

we found this cute idea on Growing A Jeweled Rose a perfect winter boredom buster!

To make snow shooters you will need:
  • 2 white cups
  • black and orange craft foam
  • 2 white or black balloons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
Making the snow shooters only took me a few minutes.  I began by cutting the bottom off of two white cups.  Then I took two white balloons and cut the tops off of those to create a larger opening.  This made it easy to stretch the balloons over the cup bottoms.  I layered the bottom rim of each cup with glue before pulling the balloons over the openings.  I used a glue stick, but hot glue would probably work even better.  Once the balloon pieces were secured I decorated the front of the cups to look like snowmen using craft foam

Once dry you can give kids cotton balls, white pom poms, or balled up paper to shoot at each other.  All they have to do is place the "snow" inside and gently pull back on the balloon

Snow shooters

The snow will go flying!

We used cotton balls for our snow.  Rosie and Jewel have been having lots of fun shooting snowballs all over the house, and especially at each other.  One thing I love about this toy is that clean up is a breeze.  It only takes a minute to gather up the snowballs and tuck the snow shooters away for another day.

Christmas Party game idea

Most of us either host or attend some sort of party this time of year. If you are in charge of games, look no further, we have some great ideas for you!

The reindeer game!

All you need is a few pair of large panty-hose and a bag of balloons (get those here!)
Split into 2-3 teams. The goal is to blow as many balloons up as possible and fill the legs of the panty-hose, then put it on someones head to look like a reindeer! It is not as easy as it sounds! Super fun, lots of laughs guaranteed! Be sure to take lots of pictures!
PS: get large or XL panty-hose so they will fit over anyones head)

Another favorite of ours is the paper plate game.

All you need are sturdy paper plates (I got mine at Costco) and pens for each player.
The host tells the players to put their paper plate on their head.
Then the host will give a series of instructions for the players to draw on their paper plates (that are on their heads) without looking.
Here are the instructions:
1. Draw a line for a floor.
2. Draw a Christmas Tree.  Add decorations if you feel so inclined.
3. Draw a star on top of your tree.
4. Draw a fireplace with a mantel next to the tree.
5. Draw a stocking hanging from the mantel of your fireplace.
6. Draw a present below the tree.
After the six steps have been given, let everyone look at their masterpieces.
Get ready for a serious giggle fest.
Then have players count up how many points they received by following this rubric:
1. 2 points if the tree touches the floor.
2. 2 points if your stocking is touching your mantel.
3. 1 point if your star touches your tree.
4. 1 point if your star is above your tree.
5. 1 point for every Christmas ornament ball that is ON your tree, etc.
6. 1 point if your fireplace doesn’t touch the tree (it’s a fire hazard!). :-)
7. 1 point if you actually drew something decorative on your stocking (or something cute, like a tiny kitten peeking out).
8. 2 points if your present is under your tree.
The player with the most points should receive a really awesome prize (such as this yummy Christmas bag of Chocolate Covered Cinnamon Bears)

Happy Party-ing!

December Visiting and Home teaching gifts

The title of the official December's Visiting Teaching message from the Ensign is "The Divine Mission of Jesus Christ: Prince of Peace." We have included the full message from the Ensign, a 3"x4" print of Mary holding baby Jesus
(painting by Simon Dewey), and a Dove milk chocolate bar.

Wrapped in a chocolate brown gift sack, a tag with a graphic of a dove on it, and a tag that reads, "Celebrate the Prince of Peace this Christmas Season" - this gift will be just right for the sisters you visit teach.

The December Home Teaching message is entitled, "Fill the World with Christ's Love." In the message, President Uchtdorf tells a story about a family in need one Christmas. When asked what the children would like, the girls replied a stuffed animal or a doll, and the hungry little boy just wanted a bowl of oatmeal.
The message goes on to remind us that sometimes a humble gift or giving of our love is most important. We have wrapped up a canister of oatmeal, included the message along with a tag. We hope your families will enjoy!
